El Floridita
  • 1 1/2 ounces rum
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
  • Splash white crème de cacao
  • Splash grenadine
Shake with cracked ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime twist.
NOTE: The key with this drink, is to get just enough crème de cacao so that you can taste it, but not so much that it is obvious.
El Floridita
DrinkBoy Says: Properly made, this drink should have just the faintest hint of chocolate in it.

It was most likely during Prohibition, when Americans exported their thirst for cocktails to other countries, that the Floridita cocktail was developed at the famous El Florida (aka. El Floridita) bar in Cuba.

This particular cocktail is rarely found in recipe compendiums, much less in the repertoire of your local bartender. However it has a freshness and a flavor that I think deserves a second chance. I personally refer to this as my Cosmo-Killer, since it provides much of the same sort of qualities found in the Cosmopolitan, but I feel that the complexities of El Floridita make it a much better choice.

Please remember to drink safely and responsibly.
