Bantam Books
A true Wad-O-Drinks book. Containing over 2400 different recipes, and cheap to boot.
I would shudder to consider this the definitive list of cocktail recipes, but for a book of this quantity of recipes (over 2400), I am a little suprised by the quality and completeness of (many of) its listings. Many of the recipes will properly list Orange Bitters, even though few bartenders have ever heard of it, and suprise! suprise! They even list the Xeres, which contains not only Orange Bitters, but also the far more elusive Peach Bitters.
This book is never the first book I refer to in order to look up a recipe, and usually not the second or even the third. But after checking out all of my regular sources, there are many times when I have been able to rely on this little book to provide me with the information on some really obscure or bizzare cocktail I was needing to find the recipe for.
If you are after a cheap paperback book with a load of cocktail recipes in it, I would perhaps recommend the paperback version of Bartenders Bible by Gary Regan. It has less then half the cocktail recipes of this book, but all of them are more then twice the quality, so I guess that makes up for it.
