The sixth edition of a popular volume that continues to be published today.
Everybody knows, and sometimes loves, the Old Mr. Boston books. You can find them in almost every book store, and their relatively inexpensive price makes them a great little stocking stuffer.
They've always just been a recipe book. No fuss, no muss, no details. You've often got to read between the lines just to try to figure out exactly how to make some of the more complex drinks that they contain.
Their recipes also of course attempt to cross-sell you on using their own line of spirits and liqueurs, so you'll find a lot of specific brands and bottlings mentioned in their recipes, often at the expense of listing the correct ingredient for the recipe.
The best thing about these books, is that they have been regularly reprinted over the years, and can provide an interesting cross section of the cocktails and recipes used from just after prohibition to modern days. I highly recommend picking up a few of the older editions from different years just so you can get an idea of the history of the drinks they contain.
However, I do caution anybody about referencing any of these books as evidence of the correct way to make a particular cocktail. If any of the cocktail recipes in these books are accurate, is appears to be purely by chance.
