A wonderful selection of Tropical classics as served by Don The Beachcomber in his various restaurants
Don The Beachcomber originated the concept of "Tiki" restaurants and bars. With timing almost perfectly synchronized with the repeal of prohibition, he opened the first of many South Seas inspired establishments. The food, and more importantly the drinks, that he served would capture the imaginations of a thirsty public, and he would soon be joined by countless imitators and admirers.
Arnold Bitner has captured much of the inspiriation that was Don The Beachcomber in his beautifully illustrated book. If you can get past the confusing title, you'll find inside historical insights on what made Don click, but more importantly you'll find a wonderful collection of recipes for some of his most famous tropical drinks, as well as some food recipes that will allow you prepare an entire South Seas feast to accompany the libations.
