2 dash maraschino liqueur
2 dash lemon juice
2 dash orange bitters
Garnish: Cherry
Shake with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.

This is definately a gin-forward cocktail, using just scant amounts of lemon juice and maraschino liqueur. In both "Recipes for Mixed Drinks" (1917) and "The Savoy Cocktail Book" (1930), they called for Old Tom gin.
