Floridita
  • 1 1/2 ounces rum
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1/8 ounce white crème de cacao
  • 1/8 ounce grenadine
Shake with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime twist.
NOTE: Measuring all the ingredients is important with this drink. Specifically, be sure not to use too much crème de cacao, you should just barely taste it.
Floridita
DrinkBoy Says: Properly made, this drink should have just the faintest hint of chocolate in it.

It was most likely during Prohibition, when Americans exported their thirst for cocktails to other countries, that the Floridita cocktail was developed at the famous El Florida (aka. El Floridita) bar in Cuba.

This particular cocktail is rarely found in recipe compendiums, much less in the repertoire of your local bartender. However it has a freshness and a flavor that I think deserves a second chance. I personally refer to this as my Cosmo-Killer, since it provides much of the same sort of qualities found in the Cosmopolitan, but I feel that the complexities of the Floridita make it a much better choice.
