Source: Frank Meier, Ritz Hotel Paris (April, 1923)
The original recipe called for equal amounts of gin and orange juice, a dash of absinthe, and a dash or raspberry (or other sweet) syrup.
In the 1920s Dr. Serge Voronoff, a Russian surgeon living in France, gained more than a small amount of fame and fortune for his practice of implanting into men the testicles of monkeys for apparent therapueutic purposes. This drink was named in "honor" of this practice.
