Little Italy

Rye whiskey has seen an all-important resurgance in the last few years, and one of the people we can thank for that is Audrey Saunders of the Pegu Club in New York NY. The "Little Italy" is one of the drinks that she specifically created to make use of this forgotten style of Whiskey, and it's been going like gangbusters ever since.
Little Italy
2 ounces rye whiskey (Rittenhouse 100)
3/4 ounce sweet vermouth (Martini & Rossi)
1/2 ounce Cynar
Garnish: Luxardo maraschino cherry, plus just a little bit of the syrup.
Stir with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.
