Martinez
1 ounce gin
2 ounces sweet vermouth
1 dash orange bitters
2 dashes maraschino liqueur
Garnish: Lemon twist
Stir with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Many may refer to the Martinez as being simply an early version of the Martini, to the point of refering to the origins of the Martini as being those of the Martinez. I instead feel that both the Martinez and the Manhattan were precursors to the Martini, each being a unique cocktail unto itself.
