Martini (circa. 1900)
2 ounces gin
1 ounce sweet vermouth
1 dash orange bitters
Garnish: Lemon twist
Stir with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Many people don't realize that the Martini was originally made with sweet vermouth. The recipe shown here, would have been what you probably would have gotten had you simply ordered a "Martini" in most American bars around the 1900's. You may want to experiment a little bit with the ratios since which gin you use, as well as which sweet vermouth, will present a different flavor profile. This drink should be full of flavor, but it shouldn't taste overly sweet.
