2 ounces brandy
1/2 ounce orgeat
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Garnish: Lemon twist
Stir with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Out of the 10 cocktail recipes that Mr. Thomas included in his 1862 edition, all of them had names like Brandy Cocktail, Fancy Brandy Cocktail, Gin Cocktail, Champagne Cocktail, etc... all that is except for two, one of them was the Japanese Cocktail. It was probably Mr. Thomas himself who crafted this drink in honor of Japan’s first diplomatic mission to the US, which happened to be staying just down the street from his New York bar on Broadway.
